Dying Elf (Elf Collaboration with Emma Pickles)

Dying222

Emma Pickles and I have been talking about collaborating for quite literlaly years now! Two IMATS ago we decided we were going to do an elf collaboration and today (well…yesterday) we finally got around to it.

My idea for this look is that since elves live longer the process of dying would be longer too

Of course I went for a more morbid and depressing theme, I wanted the character to look like it was fading away slowly and knew nothing could be done. I know…I’m a happy and cheerful person!

Black and White

I was very very tempted to make all the pictures black and white, they looked so erie in black and white, but I felt it might be a little counterproductive applying all the greens and reds to only have the final photos in black and white.

You can see Emma’s look here

The ears I made myself, but there are still a few things I need to work on before I upload the tutorial on how to make and apply them. They still need a few more improvements.

Since it’s Halloween season my looks are not going to get cheerful in a hurry over the next few weeks, that being said, I hope you like this one :)

Hope you like the tutorial :)

Real Life Disney: Tinker Bell

Tinker Bell Makeup

Every single time I try this wig on I think I might try going blond, then I remember I am quite possibly the laziest person on the planet when it comes to my hair. Wash it, an oil/vinegar/rosemary rinse every month or two and comb it. That is the extent of what I can be bothered to do!

Moving onto non “princes’ characters now!

Plus I’m pretty sure given how I react to a lot of chemicals in products any hair dye might make my face melt of, so there’s reason number two to not die my hair! But I am going to try and lighten it with lemon and chamomile over the summer.

Tinker Bell Real Life Disney

I decided not to go with the wings and bun, mainly because I don’t have a blond bun or wings, and making wings is something I want to save for later for a light and dark angel duo I’m planning (I know, I plan far too many videos in advance)

Before people ask, I got the green shirt here

Peter Pan is a character I’m thinking of adding in this series, but I think I draw the line at Wendy. Always, alway hated that character! The over the top english accents drove me nuts and I always thought she was one of the biggest wimps.

Tinker Bell Keyhole

I’m trying to practice using a skin filter for when we finally have the Fenix album recorded and start on the music videos. Don’t worry, it’s not a permanent thing, I’m very much against skin filters in makeup videos but I need to practice a little so today I’m making an exception.

So there you have it! My version of Tinker Bell!

Thranduil Makeup

The Hobit Thranduil Cosplay

Don’t worry I’ve not forgotten about my Disney series, but as those of you who watch me a lot know I like to break my series up a little, and today I’m breaking it up with a Thranduil tutorial.

I’ve collaborated with MAKE to make a DIY for the crown for this

MAKE haven’t uploaded the DIY video I made for them yet, I was hoping to wait till they uploaded it so that both videos could go up at the same time, but I couldn’t make you guys wait for this tutorial any more, so this video will go up today and I’ll put up a new blog post as soon as their video is live and share it with you on Twitter.

Woodlnad King

And I know the crown looks tricky to make, believe me it’s not! Time consuming yes, and you might accidently stick your fingers together like I did, but it is very simple once you break it down. I’ve listed where I got all the props and outfits down bellow. I kinda cheated on the jacket, I couldn’t find anything which wouldn’t cost £100 plus so I got a traditional chinese jacked instead which worked perfectly.

Where I got the outfit (**):

Ring 1 : Ring 2 : Ring 3 : Ring 4 : Jacket : Brooch : Wig : Lenses

Actually really looking forward to going back to the disney series next week. Transformations are not my forte, you end up putting SO much makeup on your face and I think you guys know I like as little makeup as possible on my skin.

Thranduil's Sword

So…there you have it! My Thranduil tutorial! I hope you like it and maybe it’ll make this into a LOTR series but for the moment I just need to get back and finish off my Disney series.

Hope you like the tutorial!

Real Life Disney: Merida

Red Hair

This look reminded me why I want to keep my hair short. I just far too lazy to maintain long hair, but I’ll admit it was nice to feel like I had long hair again, even if it was just for a few hours.

This look is ridiculously simple and quick to do, it’s all about the hair!

And by the hair I don’t just mean the wig, you’ll also have to change the colour of your brows. Now there probably are “professional” mascaras for changing the colour of your brows/lashes, but apart from the fact that they would be expensive likely not get used up before they expired, I wanted to use something the average person is more likely to have.

Merida-Brave

Merida Brave

I hope you don’t mind that this video is so short, but honestly there wasn’t much more I could do with Merida since she doesn’t wear makeup of any kind, it it would not really be her if I added more makeup.

I hope you like the tutorial :)

Four Horsemen: Death

Don't Cry

Now that I’ve started to get into the habit of doing makeup series I’ve noticed I get so, so happy when I finally reach the end of one of them. I shouldn’t really be happy about finishing this one because the next one is going to take a stupid amount of work to get it to look the way I would like (the chess series) but hey, I’m going to enjoy the feeling for now.

My thought was that after going through Conquest, War and Famine, Death would be a relief. So I wanted to portray it that way

I didn’t want death to look scary, rather I wanted it to look daunting but beautiful, so I followed a rough skull like pattern but make it ornate and a ‘little’ bling-y.

Four Horsemen Death

One thing I will say if you’re trying to re-create this is don’t focus too much on copying exactly what I do. Rather you should take key elements such as the teeth, the oubtline of the socket and follow along the cheek bones but don’t stress too much on imitating the filagre patterns too much.

Whatever skin tone you have use colours which are contrasting and not too close to your own skin tone

Now for darker skin tones the colours you would use change slightly but not as much as you would think. Follow exactly the same steps I did but instead of brown use cream, use white instead of black and gold (or silver) instead of the white eyeliner.

Till Death

As much as it might look complicated when it’s broken down it really isn’t. Time consuming yes, but is you take your time and focus on each individual layer it’s a lot simpler than you think.

Hope you like the tutorial! :D

Snow Fairy

Winter is Comming

I was going to call this look Winter is Coming, but I was a little worried some people wouldn’t get the reference and others would complain that “that isn’t a sean bean look!”. So winter fairy it was!

The berry crown was easy, it’s just a few branches and wire wound together, that’s it! Simple.

Originally I was going to make a holly crown, but I thought it might be very painful to wear so I went for a berry wreath crown instead. I had roughty based this look on a variation of the makeup I did for Phildel in her “Comfort Me” music video, just with more rhinestones of course ;)

Ice Snow Queen

For this video I wanted to experiment with the editing a little and try and make the footage almost black and white except for the red, which I wanted to stand out. I was worried that it might not turn out how I wanted it to look, but overall I was quite happy with the final result.

Since I’ll be editing the Fenix music videos I’m trying to experiment and get as much practice as possible

Doing the pictures of this was fun! When I’d been editing the pictures for my Ghost of Christmas past look I discovered a little technique for blending pictures together which worked so well for the candles. But today I wanted to make it look like it was snowing in the picture and I hadn’t previously attempted to do that, so I wan’t sure how it would turn out.

Let it Snow

At first I tried experimenting with a few photoshop brushes, but they just looked odd (I was probably doing it wrong to be honest) so instead I took a picture of glitter falling, and layered that over the pictures and it worked perfectly!

I hope you like the tutorial :)

Ghost of Christmas Present

Christmas present

Of course the minute I’d finished editing and uploading this I realised…*sigh*…that it really is a variation of the Christmas look I did last year. I seem to have this thing where I go for gold and green each christmas. So…yea, sorry about that! :/

This kind of look is not for anywhere with harsh lighting. Late and with low-lighting looks best with this combination

And while I’m on the role for apology’s sorry about this video being up so late. The annoying thing is I worked my butt off this week to get all 3 of the Ghost videos done (I had to re-film the ghost of Christmas past because I hated my original version) so of course You Tube thought they would throw a spanner in the works and hit my videos with a false copyright claim.

Makeup

I’d planned to use this track by SleepTheif which worked so well but You Tube were not doing anything about the claim from CD Baby so I had to change the music. Not much point in uploading a Christmas look after Christmas.

Since this is the Ghost of Christmas Present it made sense for the look not to be over the top or more of a character kind of look, but like something you would wear in this day and age.

I hope you like the tutorial :)

Ghost of Christmas Future

Ghost of Future

Now you’re prObably wondering, hey…where’s the Ghost of Christmas Present? Well, thanks to you tube and their terrible new system companies who don’t own or even distribute the music used can just make a claim on your video. And then all you can do is dispute the claim and wait for You Tube to get around to resolving the issue eventually.

So I’ve had to upload this series in the wrong order, thanks You Tube

I sorry about this :( I worked my butt of this week to get all these videos done, filmed, photographed and edited as well as I could, and then You Tube just chucked a spanner in the mix!  I hope you like this one  though and hopefully the problem will be fixed in the next day or so.

My Future

Now I know that traditionally the Ghost of Christmas Future is show either with no face or one which looks like a scull, but I think most of you know by now that I repeating what’s already been done and like to put my own spin on things.

The idea is simple. Each side of the face represents a different future, one sad and one happy

Depending on which side of the face you can see then that if your future. Though annoyingly when I was looking through the pictures pretty much all the good ones were of the sad side of the face, it seems even subconsiously I prefer darker looks. They always come so much more naturally.

Dark Days

I hope you like the tutorial and with any luck You Tube will get their act together and release the claim soon so I can make the Ghost of Christmas Present live. Other than that thank you so much for making this year a great one and I’ll be back in the New year with hopefully improved videos and blog posts for all of you!

Merry Christmas! :D

Seven Deadly Sins: Pride

You know what I love about black and white photography? It makes your skin look flawless! This look is going to be the most ‘borring’ out of all my seven deadly sins looks, but I didn’t feel something heavy was really appropriate for this character.

I wanted to slightly tie this look in with vanity

My concept for this look was trying to look perfect. When I think of ‘perfect’ makeup I think old Holliwood, Maralin Monroe/Marlene Dietrich, so I wanted to take elements of that and put it in the makeup, but mainly in the photography.

Little bit of a side note but I can’t wait to do some more Graphic Eyeliner looks so I can go crazy with completely black and white photography. Though I did include some purple in this look, (the colour traditionally associate with Pride) I’m not going to be too pedantic about including the traditional colours in this series.

Why an apple?

Yea the apple is a reference to the forbidden fruit from the garden of Eden, and is often used as a symbol of pride and something you want badly, but is not terribly good for you. I suppose I could have used a Mac Donalds happy meal too then, but an apple is a little easier to explain.

I had taken a few shots with mirrors, which would have been perfect to show that vanity/pride theme, that’s the annoying thing sometimes about taking pictures, some days the image you have in your head just doesn’t translate well through the camera.

Hope you like the tutorial :)

Seven Deadly Sins: Greed

When I was thinking of how to portray greed the first words that poped into my head was politicial and banker, hence the white shirt, blazer and hat.

With this look I really wanted to take more of a theatrical approach to the makeup

For the actual makeup I wanted to incorperate the traditional animal asossiation (toad) with more obvious things like gold, diamonds (rhinestones) pearls exc.

The lips is probably the part that a lot of people are going to think “why?”. But you know that expression “paying through the nose”? Which on a side note apparently comes from tax collectors who would slit your nose if you didn’t pay (lovely I know).

Paying through the nose? Or bleeding gold, oil and rhinestones?

I had find a way to show that without involving blood (I’m saving that for Wrath) and this is what I came up with.

Once I’ve finished this series I’m thinking of doing the exact same series except for masquerade masks on my second channel. Would be quite a fun project to do and would be great to have masks that could go along with these looks.

Hope you like the tutorial :)
