Review: Japanese Cherry Blossom Perfume Oil

Japanese Cherry Blossom

My Lily Lolo obssession doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon, but I thought I’d least attempt to experiment with other brands and the other day when I was passing through Paddington I thought I’d give this a try. As you’d imagine it smells of cherry blossom, a sweet floral smell without smelling like you bathed in a sweet shop.

• Basics: Alcohol-free • £7 • 10ml • Cruelty-Free •

Sadly I’ve found that about about 3-4 hours you can’t really smell it unless you press your nose against where you applied it. It’s not a terrible perfume at all, I love the fact it’s so small. Makes it really easy to cary around in your pocket if you’re traveling (just make sure the lid is screwed on tight!) but I do wish the smell lasted a little longer than a few hours.

Klaire’s Wardrobe | Nina Richi L’Elixir

Nina Richi

The last of my purchases (so far) from Nina Richi, and my favourite of the three perfumes I bought. My tastes in perfumes might be considered slightly immatures since I adore sweet fruity smells, but hey, that’s what I like, along with beautiful perfume bottles.

Top note: Calabrese Lemon, Lime Caipirinha | Heart: Red Berries, Jasmine | Base: Amber

I made the mistake of going for a small perfume bottle with my first perfume so this time (for all three perfumes I bought) I went for the 50ml, hopefully this one will last me a little longer than 3 months.

Nina Perfume

I’d describe the smell as fresh and fruity with a kick. Perfect for the winter, or if it’s really hot and you want a smell that at least makes you feel like it’s cooler. My absolute favourite current perfume!

Klaire’s Wardrobe | Nina Ricci Ricci

Nina Richi

I have to hand it to Nina Ricci, their perfumes bottles are almost as nice as their perfumes and a huge factor for when I’m sniffing around for a new one. There’s something so exciting and luxury about looking at your perfume bottles laid out on your desk before picking your scent for the day.

Top notes, Rhubarb Zest, Bergamot. Middle notes: Moonflower, Tuberose, Centifolia Rose and base notes of Patchouli and Sandalwood

I don’t like having just one scent. Like my clothes I like to mix and match my outfits and scents depending on my mood. Of the three Nina Ricci perfumes I got this is my second favourite, heavy enough for night time but light enough for the day too provided you don’t overdose on sprays.

Nina Ricci Ricci

It’s a little sweet but has a bit of a spicy kick to to it which is lovely, and like all the Nina perfumes, it lasts all day. The initial spray can be a little bit overpowering (I think it’s the rhubarb), you do not need more than two sprays, once it settles you get warm floral smell.

I’d describe this as a warm floral smell (not sweet) with a kick

One odd thing about this though is that I can’t spray it on my décolletage, even though I’m fine on my wrists, back of the ears or back of my neck. For some reason this perfume on the front of the neck/chest area makes my skin get so itchy. Not rash levels itchy, but uncomfortable non the less, so just something to bear in mind.

Klaire’s Wardrobe | Nina Ricci – Love in Paris

Nina Richi Love in Paris

So part of me should be very disappointed that I gave in and bought this. I said in my last perfume purchase (which got used up in about 3 months) that I would treat myself with a new perfume for each song I wrote and recorded for Fenix. Well…the album is completely written now but not recorded, so yes, I cheated.

I figured that I don’t want/need more than 3 perfumes (famous last words) and since I’d written the songs it was technically ok

And there was 25% off…so that pushed me over the edge haha! I bought three perfumes; this, Richi Richi and Nina-L’Elixir. As I’m sure you can tell by now I’m a huge fan of the Nina Richi perfumes, they’re cruelty-free and tend to be the kind of smells I love.

Love in Paris

This one is a bit of an unusual sent for me since I normally go for sweet floral smells. And it has two scents that I normally avoid, rose and musk, but for some reason this perfume just works for me. It’s a slightly more ‘mature smell’ than tend to go for but I love it!

Top notes: bergamot, star anise and rose | Middle Notes: white peony, velvety apricot, sheer jasmine | Base notes: sandalwood, cedar wood, musk and vanilla

It’s quite funny that since I’ve moved from The Body Shop perfumes I’ve realised what a difference a good perfume makes. The smell of these (the Nina Ricci perfumes) last all day without a problem and I can even smell it on my coat a few days later. I’d describe this as a musky spring smell.

Klaire’s Wardrobe: Vintage Perfume Atomiser

For my last perfume post (and my first ever perfume purchase) I’d set myself the goal of for each new song I recorded with Fenix  to get myself a new perfume. Over the past few weeks we’ve gotten 3, almost 4 new songs demo’d, though not recorded, so I gave myself a little leeway and got myself a retro perfume bottle.

I wanted to experiment with making my own perfumes and I absolutely adore retro-perfume bottles

I’m quite looking forward to experimenting with this one! :D One of my favourite things to collect is essential oils, and I have quite a collection! My favourites being pine, jasmine, lime and pomegranate.

I absolutely adore retro perfume bottles, and I know it sounds silly but I was literally squeezing the balloon pump (that’s what the squeezy thing is called) for about five minute because it made me laugh so much.

I think my first mix will be using pine, peach and jasmine

The bottle also came with a spare plain lid and funnel, and it’s easy to take the top off. So if a mixture ends a little strangely I can just use it as room spray and try again.

The first few tries are probably going to be on the far end of terrible. But hopefully after a while I’ll get the swing of it, and if I end up getting quite good at it I think I’m going to end up slowly collecting more of these.

Klaire’s Wardrobe | Nina Richi L’Eau

Would you believe that this is my first “proper” perfume? When I say ‘proper’ I mean the first designer fragerance I’ve ever bought that wasn’t from Aldi or The Body Shop.

“I love sweet smells and this one is a lovely blend of apple, grapefruit, mandarin, neroli and cherry”

A few weeks ago when I was doing Silvija’s makeup for the Fenix “about us” page, I decided that I was going to start a little tradition. Every time we’ve finished recording a new song (but only one I have written) I can buy myself a new perfume.  It would be quite a nice system to celebrate each new song.

I’d really like to slowly start building up a little collection of my favorite cruelty-free perfumes. For the moment I have my eye on most of the Nina Richi perfumes, I love how floral and fresh most of them smell, and that red apple one will be mine!

I’ve got the next 3 Fenix songs written so I’m already making a list of perfumes I want to try :D

And from the few testers I’ve smelt I think I’d like to get my hands on Love in Paris next, or experiment with finding a scent that’s a little less “fruity”.

Might even try out a few men’s perfumes since I don’t really care that it’s “for men” and absolutely adore that fresh pine-y smell some of them have. Though next time I know I should get a bigger bottle because I’m getting through this one at an absurd rate!

Klaire’s Wardrobe: Aldi Eau de Toilettes

Now I’ve finally finished my Body Shop Eau de Toilettes, and before I go ahead an invest in a good perfume, (I’m thinking of getting one of the Nina Ricci perfumes), I wanted to get a few new eau de toilettes.

I love a good perfume, but sometimes you just want something more subtle.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Body Shop Eau de Toilettes but now I’ve used them for a while I’ve realised that the smell doesn’t really last much longer than 4 hours, and to be honest, while I have my favorite kinds of smells, I like to experiment with perfumes/eau de toilettes and switch it up once I’ve finished my latest bottel.

I saw these at Aldi and thought I’d give them a try

These are really so good! I’m actually shocked at how good they are. They’re only £3.99 and, dare I say it, they’re better than The Body Shop perfumes! I prefer the New York one over the Paris EDT. Paris is a little on the floral side, I like floral but zesty floral, and the New York one is perfect.

Paris makes me feel a little more laid back and easy going, but New York has more of a go-go-go smell and makes me feel enerjetic which is exactly how I like smells to make me feel. Apparently they also have one called London, so I might try that one out too at some point…

Review: Limited Eddition Body Shop Eau de Toilette

It just ocoured to me that all my perfume related posts must look quite boring seeing as they’re mostly Body Shop perfumes, but what can I say, I have an addiction! :)

These three are the new, limited edition Eau de Toilette’s from The Body Shop and I love them! Even the white musk one is lovely and usually I’m not a fan of White Musk, I find it a bit too overwhelming but this one I like.

All of the bottle shapes are the same as previous or current bottle designs that The Body Shop use, so nothing spectacular about the shape of the bottles but I’ll admit the thing that drew me to them was the gradient colours. I’m a total sucker for gradients!

I’m not terribly good at describing smells as my nose isn’t one of the best but I will do my best.

Sun Kiss Eau de Toilette: White Musk Sun Glow

Generally I’m not a fan of musk, I tend to find it a bit over whelming and just a bit stuffy but this mix works.

“This summery fragrance is a blend of peony, soft peach notes and a shot of zesty lemon. It is elegant, seductive and feminine. Perfumer Domitille Bertier says, “I brought a joyful and luminous touch to this iconic musk by adding a zing of lemon and a dash of amber”

Personally this is the kind of perfume/eua de Toilette that I would wear in the evening. I suspect that the smell will appeal to women in their late teens and early twenties and it’s the kind of thing I can image someone wearing on holiday, at a late night party in a hot country.

This isn’t the kind of thing I would wear if I was going to the pub or out cubing, the smell lasts only about 4-5 hours and in a “energetic” setting I suspect it would last a lot less time.

I like all three of these but out of the three this is probably my least favorite.

Dreams Unlimited: Sun Fresh eau de toilette

Love this one! This is my kind of smell!

“This summery fragrance is a blend of neroli blossom and refreshing watermelon notes. It is vibrant, energizing and as refreshing as a splash in the ocean. Perfumer Loc Dong says, “I added freshness with sea spray and fruity watermelon for an unexpected fragrance fusion.”

The smell that is the most strong is the watermelon but it’s not a “sticky-sweet” smell. This one makes me think of walks on the beach at sunset in Greece. (I’ve never been to Greece but this is what the smell makes me think of).

LOVE etc… Sun Kiss eau de toilette

“This summery fragrance is a blend of jasmine and fresh nectarine notes. It is deliciously light, upbeat and cheeky. Perfumer Dominique Ropion says, “I used nectarine with an unexpected solar accord, perfectly embodying the scent of summertime.”

Jasmine is one of my favorite smells so it really wasn’t much of a surprise that I liked this one. Not much to say really, I love it! This one I’ve gotten really addicted to wearing when I go out as it’s quite a fun smell and is small enough to fit really snugly in my handbag.

I’m not picky about many things but always having a perfume or eau de toilette in my handbag is a must.

These are all limited edition (sadly) from The Body Shop and all three of them cost £15, but they seem to be having sales every few weeks so if you keep an eye out you can probably get them for a lower price. You can buy them here.
