Dying Elf (Elf Collaboration with Emma Pickles)

Emma Pickles and I have been talking about collaborating for quite literlaly years now! Two IMATS ago we decided we were going to do an elf collaboration and today (well…yesterday) we finally got around to it.

My idea for this look is that since elves live longer the process of dying would be longer too

Of course I went for a more morbid and depressing theme, I wanted the character to look like it was fading away slowly and knew nothing could be done. I know…I’m a happy and cheerful person!

Black and White

I was very very tempted to make all the pictures black and white, they looked so erie in black and white, but I felt it might be a little counterproductive applying all the greens and reds to only have the final photos in black and white.

You can see Emma’s look here

The ears I made myself, but there are still a few things I need to work on before I upload the tutorial on how to make and apply them. They still need a few more improvements.

Black and White Photography Dying Elf Black in White

Since it’s Halloween season my looks are not going to get cheerful in a hurry over the next few weeks, that being said, I hope you like this one :)

Hope you like the tutorial :)

Real Life Disney: Merida

Red Hair

This look reminded me why I want to keep my hair short. I just far too lazy to maintain long hair, but I’ll admit it was nice to feel like I had long hair again, even if it was just for a few hours.

This look is ridiculously simple and quick to do, it’s all about the hair!

And by the hair I don’t just mean the wig, you’ll also have to change the colour of your brows. Now there probably are “professional” mascaras for changing the colour of your brows/lashes, but apart from the fact that they would be expensive likely not get used up before they expired, I wanted to use something the average person is more likely to have.

Merida Brave

I hope you don’t mind that this video is so short, but honestly there wasn’t much more I could do with Merida since she doesn’t wear makeup of any kind, it it would not really be her if I added more makeup.

I hope you like the tutorial :)

My Makeup Removal Routine

My routine

Pretty much every single time I upload a ‘heavy’ makeup tutorial I get a stream of people requesting that I do a makeup removal routine. So this week I finally caved and filmed it, though just a small heads up, it’s really is super simple. I’m not fond of using tones of products every day. I prefer to have a selection of products which I love and use them when my skin needs it.

My skin is combination and depending on my current diet or my mood (especially my mood) my skin can do a total 180

Since switching to coconut milk I’ve noticed that my skin really doesn’t need added moisture that often since it get’s the moisture internaly instead of externally, which personally I find to be the best method. In terms of skin care I think products are there to help your skin along, not there to make your skin dependent on them.

What I useWhat I used:

I did a review of this here a few months ago and as you can see in the video I have two backups of this product, that’s how much I love it. It’s fantastic and worth every penny! (and a little goes a loooooong way).

Breath of Fresh Air:

Again, another product I’ve done a review of (here) and I think I’ve gone through 3 bottles of this one so far but one thing I do is add a little of magnesium to it, roughly about a tea spoon for the whole bottle. Makes a massive difference to my skin.

Argan Oil:

Been using this as an eye cream for well over a year now and I can’t really see myself changing that any time soon. Apart from being lovely on the skin it’s great for keeping your eyelashes in good condition. I get mine from Holland and Barrette.

Aloe Vera Gel:

Normally there are two main creams I use, this and pure coconut butter (the same you would use for cooking). But like I mentioned I like to adjust my products according to what my skin needs and at the moment it’s feeling a little sensitive. Again, I get this at Holland and Barrette.

Mascara Removal Massage Brush:

I wonder how many of you thought this was some kind of weird rubber toothbrush? This is a fairly recent addition to my makeup removal routine but it’s beauty! So much more gentle on the eyes than the disposable mascara wands I was using before. I got mine here (**).

I hope you like the video :)

Snow Fairy

Winter is Comming

I was going to call this look Winter is Coming, but I was a little worried some people wouldn’t get the reference and others would complain that “that isn’t a sean bean look!”. So winter fairy it was!

The berry crown was easy, it’s just a few branches and wire wound together, that’s it! Simple.

Originally I was going to make a holly crown, but I thought it might be very painful to wear so I went for a berry wreath crown instead. I had roughty based this look on a variation of the makeup I did for Phildel in her “Comfort Me” music video, just with more rhinestones of course ;)

Ice Snow Queen

For this video I wanted to experiment with the editing a little and try and make the footage almost black and white except for the red, which I wanted to stand out. I was worried that it might not turn out how I wanted it to look, but overall I was quite happy with the final result.

Since I’ll be editing the Fenix music videos I’m trying to experiment and get as much practice as possible

Doing the pictures of this was fun! When I’d been editing the pictures for my Ghost of Christmas past look I discovered a little technique for blending pictures together which worked so well for the candles. But today I wanted to make it look like it was snowing in the picture and I hadn’t previously attempted to do that, so I wan’t sure how it would turn out.

Let it Snow

At first I tried experimenting with a few photoshop brushes, but they just looked odd (I was probably doing it wrong to be honest) so instead I took a picture of glitter falling, and layered that over the pictures and it worked perfectly!

I hope you like the tutorial :)

Ghost of Christmas Future

Ghost of Future

Now you’re prObably wondering, hey…where’s the Ghost of Christmas Present? Well, thanks to you tube and their terrible new system companies who don’t own or even distribute the music used can just make a claim on your video. And then all you can do is dispute the claim and wait for You Tube to get around to resolving the issue eventually.

So I’ve had to upload this series in the wrong order, thanks You Tube

I sorry about this :( I worked my butt of this week to get all these videos done, filmed, photographed and edited as well as I could, and then You Tube just chucked a spanner in the mix!  I hope you like this one  though and hopefully the problem will be fixed in the next day or so.

My Future

Now I know that traditionally the Ghost of Christmas Future is show either with no face or one which looks like a scull, but I think most of you know by now that I repeating what’s already been done and like to put my own spin on things.

The idea is simple. Each side of the face represents a different future, one sad and one happy

Depending on which side of the face you can see then that if your future. Though annoyingly when I was looking through the pictures pretty much all the good ones were of the sad side of the face, it seems even subconsiously I prefer darker looks. They always come so much more naturally.

Dark Days

I hope you like the tutorial and with any luck You Tube will get their act together and release the claim soon so I can make the Ghost of Christmas Present live. Other than that thank you so much for making this year a great one and I’ll be back in the New year with hopefully improved videos and blog posts for all of you!

Merry Christmas! :D

I’m going BALD!?

Phew….can’t believe I’m finally writing this! I’ve been thinking and planning to do this for over a year and I’m happy and terrified that I’m finally it!

First things first…why am I doing this?

I am doing this because it will be able to help 2 charities which mean a lot to me, and hopefully change the lives of a few people for the better in the process. But the main reason I’m doing this is because I’m heavily dyslexic and was very lucky to have a family friend who was a Davies instructor do the course with me when I was 16-17 for free, and it changed my life. I want more people to have this opportunity.

I want this post to be about the charities I’m hoping to help with this challange and not me, so I’ve written a sepperate post HERE detailing my experiences with dyslexia, and hopefully explain a little why I am so passionate about this.

I’m hoping to help 2 charities with this donation

With the money raised:

This will be going to help cover the costs of Davies facilitators who will be helping families who would otherwise be unable to afford the course. I was very lucky to have a family friend who recognised my dyslexia and offered to help me for free. I’ve tried to find words to explain how much of a difference that made in my life in my separate post, but I don’t think I’ll ever be able to clearly express how much it changed my life, and allowed me to achieve the things I had always dreamed of doing. Now I hope to help other Dyslexics through this charity and make the same difference it did in mine to theirs.

My my hair:

I will be donating the ‘usable’ plait legnth part of my hair to Wigs for Kids. Most of you will recognise this charity from when I cut my hair 3 years ago, for those of you who are not aware of this Charity, they provide wigs to children suffering from Cancer and Alopecia free of charge.

So here’s the plan. Within the next two weeks I would like to dare you all:

The dare is simple, if we raise £5000 I will shave my head

The donations will be taken through IndiGogo here. It’s so easy to use, I’ve used it to donate to other causes in the past and is honestly takes less than a minute (yes, it uses Paypal!)

But if you can’t (or don’t want to) then please share this blog post or the video, Re-tweet it, tweet it, tumblr facebook, anything. Trust me it all helps.

So, see you in two weeks where, hopefully, we will have raised the money, and I will have considerably less hair.

Seven Deadly Sins: Pride

You know what I love about black and white photography? It makes your skin look flawless! This look is going to be the most ‘borring’ out of all my seven deadly sins looks, but I didn’t feel something heavy was really appropriate for this character.

I wanted to slightly tie this look in with vanity

My concept for this look was trying to look perfect. When I think of ‘perfect’ makeup I think old Holliwood, Maralin Monroe/Marlene Dietrich, so I wanted to take elements of that and put it in the makeup, but mainly in the photography.

Little bit of a side note but I can’t wait to do some more Graphic Eyeliner looks so I can go crazy with completely black and white photography. Though I did include some purple in this look, (the colour traditionally associate with Pride) I’m not going to be too pedantic about including the traditional colours in this series.

Why an apple?

Yea the apple is a reference to the forbidden fruit from the garden of Eden, and is often used as a symbol of pride and something you want badly, but is not terribly good for you. I suppose I could have used a Mac Donalds happy meal too then, but an apple is a little easier to explain.

I had taken a few shots with mirrors, which would have been perfect to show that vanity/pride theme, that’s the annoying thing sometimes about taking pictures, some days the image you have in your head just doesn’t translate well through the camera.

Hope you like the tutorial :)

Seven Deadly Sins: Greed

When I was thinking of how to portray greed the first words that poped into my head was politicial and banker, hence the white shirt, blazer and hat.

With this look I really wanted to take more of a theatrical approach to the makeup

For the actual makeup I wanted to incorperate the traditional animal asossiation (toad) with more obvious things like gold, diamonds (rhinestones) pearls exc.

The lips is probably the part that a lot of people are going to think “why?”. But you know that expression “paying through the nose”? Which on a side note apparently comes from tax collectors who would slit your nose if you didn’t pay (lovely I know).

Paying through the nose? Or bleeding gold, oil and rhinestones?

I had find a way to show that without involving blood (I’m saving that for Wrath) and this is what I came up with.

Once I’ve finished this series I’m thinking of doing the exact same series except for masquerade masks on my second channel. Would be quite a fun project to do and would be great to have masks that could go along with these looks.

Hope you like the tutorial :)

£25 Challenge | Look 4 | Summer Sunset

I know a lot of you are looking forward to the next Seven Deadly Sins look, but I’m going to be alternating these two series so that neither of them get too overexposed. So one week SDS and the next £25 Challenge.

This week I wanted to do something bright and summery before I move onto doing a few Arabic Makeup looks, which I can’t wait to do!

Hope you like the tutorial :)

Seven Deadly Sins: Lust

So glad to finally be filming these after weeks of making props and planning! I will be starting this series off with Lust, and for each tutorial I thought I’d put a little definition at the beginning of each tutorial, so it’s clear the character I’m trying to convey.

This weeks tutorial is Lust

The funny thing is that half the makeup I used was very appropriately named for this. Illamasqua’s ‘Throb” nail varnish, or the ‘Scandalous’ blush from Sleek.

And before I get people asking where I bought the lace ears, I already have a tutorial for them here. The rest of the outfit was pretty simple, lace bolero, feather boa, a black wig and then the longest fake nails you can get your hands on and paint them a bright red.

The concept for this is probably the simplest out of all the looks I’m going to do. Red is a colour that is associated with Lust quite a lot so it really was a no-brainer to use a lot of that colour. For all of these looks I’m going to have a different colour glow in the background, each colour representing a different sin. So red for Lust, gold/yellow for Greed exc.

Oh and before I forget…I’ve put all the full sized images of these up on my Deviant Art. A few people have been asking me to make my pictures available as prints, so for those of you who are interested I have made prints available for them on my Deviant Art :)

Hope you like the tutorial :)
