Review: e.l.f Lip Stains

Disclaimer: Items provided for review

You all know how much I love my Body Shop Lip stain, so I was quite interested to see how these would compare, e.l.f actually sell four of these, Cheery Blush a dark burgandy red is the shade I don’t have.

“The pen-like tip lets you draw on color easily for a streak & smudge free professional look”

Well I had it, but it arrived pretty much dry (when I shook it you could hear the inside was loose and rattling around) and I was trying to figure out a way to make them moist again. It didn’t work sadly so I can’t review it with the rest of the lips stains.

On the e.l.f uk website they say these lip stains are “infused with nourishing Vitamin E to hydrate and moisturise lips”, it’s not really that effective. With most lip stains they tend to be drying but these are really, really drying. To be fair I’ve always had really dry lips so for someone how had naturally moist lips this might not be an issue.

  • 4 shades
  • £2.50
  • Cruelty-Free
I won’t be swatching these on my lips today, I’ve been ill for the last week and my lips are not in a state to show on camera so I’ve swatched them on my arm instead. Nude Nectar (top shade) and Pixi Pink (Middle shades) won’t show up too well on anyone who already has quite red lips, you get a subtle tint but you wont get to the exact shade of the lip stain.

Crimson crush is probably my favorite of the lot. On my lips it turns out a lot darker than the swatch above, a lovely retro red colour. One drawback to these (other than they’re crazy drying) is that when you actually want to take it of it is not easy. I’ve tried to use makeup remover to get these off (Bioderma) and nothing, removed a little of it but not all of it. The only thing I’ve found that get’s these off is a little bit of vodka applied to a cotton ball and then wipe it off. So they’re pretty “smudge proof!”

  • Streaky application
  • Drying
  • Dry (as in not enough moisture in the actual product)
  • Best ones are the two darker shades

Overall I don’t think these will replace my Body Shop lip stains. While the stain does last for an age and a half they wear away slowly after about 2-3 hours in the middle of your lips and you’re left with a red outline . Also they’re just too dry, that goes for my lips and the actual nib. Sorry e.l.f.

Tag: Six Favorite Nail Varnishes

I’ve never really done any tags on my main channel, mainly because they tend to end up talking about more and more personal stuff which is something I just don’t want to do on any of my channels.

But now that I have my second channel I think I will start doing more of these kinds of tags as they are quite fun to do. My favorite out of these six is Copper from Bary M. Obsessed with this colour!

It’s so sparkly and pretty and just ugh! Love, love it!

What are your six favorite nail varnishes?

Nail of the Day no.2

I saw this picture the other day of this stunning black sari with gold trimming and I wanted to try something similar on nails.

First thing I did is apply two coats of black nail varnish.

Then once the black coats had dried I applied a matte top coat.

Finally I finished off with some gold swirls and red rhinestones.

Nail Tutorial: Vintage Fruit Salad

Now that I’m learning the guitar I probably wont be doing nail tutorials on my channel much so I’m going to be doing them here on my blog instead :)

A few days ago I went to assist Teresa Smith for an accessories photo shoot for Tank magazine, and she came up with these little beauties. They reminded me of vintage patters and a fruit salad so I decided to call it vintage fruit salad : )

Obviously if you were doing this on your real nails you would have to apply a base coat first.

What I used:

Barry M Nail Paints in:

  • Strawberry Ice Cream
  • Mint Green
  • Base Coat

I also used:

  • Fimo fruit wheel(E-Bay)
  • Nail Dotting Tools (E-Bay)
  • e.l.f Matte Coat (
  • Angled Tweezers (E-Bay)

Anyway….here is how to do it : )

  1. Apply two coats of Barry M Nail Paint in Strawberry Ice Cream all over the nail, don’t forget to wait for the first layer to dry before applying the next.
  2. Taking the e.l.f Matte Top Coat (or any mattifier) apply it over the nail, you have to do this quickly if you want a smooth surface.
  3. Next with the Barry M Nail Paint in min green cover the nail in polka dots with a dotting tool.
  4. Finally I  applied a dot of clear nail varnish on the upper left hand side of the nail and with angled tweezers placed a selection of three fimo fruits on it.

And viola! A vintage fruit salad : D

I hope you liked it : )

Review- Beauty Encyclopedia: Everyday Eyes

Quite a few people have asked me what eye shadows from e.l.f are the best and the answer is the beauty encyclopedias. The quads are good but you tend to get tones of fallout with them, and the studio line are not very pigmented.

All the eye shadows in this pallet are well pigmented and have a satin-like texture to them, it comes with 12 eye shadows, 2 cream eye shadows and and eyeliner and applicator.

Are they the most pigmented eye shadows I have ever tried? No, for the moment Sugarpill are the only shadows that have blown my mind as far as pigmentation goes, but the e.l.f eyeshadows are still very good.

All the swatches bellow were from one swipe so you can see they’re quite pigmented. One thing I have noticed though is that the shades with glitter in them tend the lose the glitter a little bit when you apply them to the eyes.

As for the eyeliner and applicator in the set I never use them, I normally end up using the applicator for pastel drawings. The eyeliner looks great in the swatches but on the waterline ends up being a weak greyish colour.

  • Good pigmentation
  • Super affordable
  • Good range of colours
  • Shipping is VERY fast!
  • Excellent customer service
  • Cruelty Free

  • Prone to fallout
  • They can arrive a little battered
  • Are very prone to “popping” as they are loosely pressed. Do not drop these! They will explode!

To note:

  • With the cream eye shadows you will need to set them with a primer or a powder and apply them lightly or they will crease in seconds. You can use them as a primer but you have to apply them extremely thinly or again they will crease.

I was going to list the fact that I’m not too fond of the packaging in the “cons” section, but seeing as it’s more a personal preference to have all my eye shadows in pallets it’s not too fair to put it in that section.

Overall this one is much better than the “Sparkle Eyes” encyclopedia, I found with that one that the glittery eyeshadows tented to just blow off my eyelids while these eye shadows have much more staying power.

I hope this review was helpful to some of you and feel free to leave requests of other e.l.f products you want me to review :)
